FUNCTIONS As Physicist in the Fluka Development and Applications Section, you will initially: Contribute to improve and refine the atomic and nuclear physics models used in FLUKA and required for the applications to CERN Accelerator problems; As part of the FLUKA team, provide assistance in the application of the code for the purposes of CERN accelerators, especially the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the injector chain, and their future upgrade projects; Help in maintaining and regularly distributing worldwide the FLUKA code; Help in the assistance of the FLUKA worldwide user community. IN THE LONGER TERM YOU WILL: Assume a leading role in the definition of the physics and technical requirements for the FLUKA developments, and provide a substantial contribution for their fulfilment; Contribute both to the organization and management of the International FLUKA Collaboration, and to the coordination of the code development at CERN; Assure in the long term functionality of the FLUKA code with respect to the Organization needs. QUALIFICATION REQUIRED PhD/Doctorate in the field of nuclear or particle physics, or equivalent. EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES The experience required for this post is: Solid knowledge of atomic and nuclear physics; Experience in the application of particle and nuclear physics to modelling of particle interactions, and in advanced computing; Experience in the development and application of Monte Carlo techniques for the simulation of beam matter interactions; Extensive experience in computer programming and tools developments, knowledge of any of Fortran, C, C++ and Python is a plus. WOULD BE CONSIDERED A PLUS: Knowledge of the FLUKA code: experience in developing atomic and/or nuclear models for Monte Carlo codes is highly desirable; Knowledge of experimental high-energy particle physics, and of the principles of accelerator physics is desirable; Specific experience is desirable in the application of simulations to medical or research accelerator problems. THE TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POST ARE: Nuclear reaction modelling; Physics simulation; Particle physics, phenomenology; Simulation of radiation environments; Programming/Software development. THE LANGUAGE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED ARE: Spoken and written English or French: ability to understand and speak the other language in professional contexts; Ability to draw-up technical specifications and/or scientific reports and to make oral presentations in at least one of the two languages.
