Introduction

You will be part of the ATLAS Inner Detector team (PH-ADE-ID), which has major responsibilities in the ATLAS present tracking detectors and its future upgrade for HL-LHC.

The ATLAS CERN team has a major role in the upgrade of the silicon tracker for Phase-2, the so-called ITK, in particular for the construction of the future ITK pixel detector system. Our team is active in the fields of pixel sensors and electronics design, development and production of pixel modules and staves. Additionally CERN ATLAS will take a leading role in testing and integration of the future Pixel detector for the Phase 2 upgrade.

Functions

As an experienced applied physicist in the ATLAS detector team you will take a leading role in the development and later production of the ATLAS Pixel detector modules.

You will:

.Take a major role in the development of sensors and FE-electronics for ITK pixel modules, their qualification through lab tests, irradiations and beam tests.

.Design and test the sensors, next-generation pixel readout chip and evaluate the novel pixel module integration concepts.

.Lead the on-site preparation of facilities and procedures for later production of pixel modules.

.Coordinate the on-site effort of assembly and QA in liaison with engineers and technicians at CERN.

.Work together at a later stage with physicists and engineers on the integration of modules to staves.

.Take on greater responsibility for the system-tests, integration and final qualification tests before installation.

Qualification required

PhD in the field of physics, with specialisation in particle detectors, or equivalent.

Experience and competencies

The experience required for this post is:

.Demonstrated experience in the design, assembly and QA of silicon (pixel) detector modules, qualification of sensors and FE readout electronics.

.Demonstrated experience with hardware, software and electronics for semiconductor detectors.

.Demonstrated experience in system aspects and operation of large solid-state detector systems.

.Demonstrated experience with coordination and supervisory roles in a multi-disciplinary team of physicists and engineers.

The technical competencies required for this post are:

.Detector design, construction, testing and operation, in particular silicon detectors

.Detector assembly and integration: techniques, procedures and coordination

.Solid-state based particle detection technologies

.Analog circuit testing and measurement techniques, in particular Front-End Electronics for silicon sensor systems

.Data acquisition for experiments
