MECHANICAL ENGINEER IN THE EXPERIMENTAL PHYSICS DEPARTMENT (EP) LHCB EXPERIMENT (LBO) DETECTOR OPERATION (DO). The LHCb experiment is specialized in investigating the slight differences between matter and antimatter and searching for hints of new physics. The LHCb is one of the High Energy Physics experiments situated at the Large Hardon Collider at CERN. The LHCb experiment is taking data for several years now and is preparing a major upgrade which will be installed in 2019/20. YOU WILL JOIN: The LHCb Detector and Operation section in the Coordinators Office group of the LHCb experiment. FUNCTIONS As mechanical engineer with the support of technicians and designer as part of the Technical Coordination core team you will ensure the smooth and safe operation including consolidation and maintenance work and above all the successful integration and construction of the upgrade of the LHCb experiment over the next years. YOU WILL: As member of the Technical Coordination core team work efficiently with all stakeholders - detector experts members of the collaboration technical support teams from CERN and collaborating institutes. Provide mechanical analysis of detector systems support structures access platforms and shielding against radiation. Support the Technical Coordination in supervising the designers and technicians during the daily work. Lead the technical integration team for new detector subsystems and their corresponding services. Define installation procedures for the upgraded detector parts including their support structures and verify their specification according the CERN safety rules. Initiate and follow up the procurement of infrastructure systems and oversees the integration of new systems and upgraded detectors in the experiment. Participate actively in Engineering Design and Production Readiness Reviews as reviewer or observer for the Technical Coordination. QUALIFICATION REQUIRED Master's degree in the field of mechanical engineering or equivalent. EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES The experience required for this post is: Integration and installation work of small as well as large mechanical systems and structures. Management and supervision of a team of technicians and designers. Proven experience in relations and technical coordination of external companies and contractors. Experience in the use of ANSYS CATIA and office software work packages (Microsoft Office). THE TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POST ARE: Mechanical analysis & modelling: mechanical calculations. Design of mechanical systems: computer-aided design and drafting. Contract management: managing relationships with external suppliers; cooordinate and control sourcing purchasing and procurement. THE BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POST ARE: Managing self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting.
