Introduction

Mechanical technican in the Beams department (BE), Radiofrequency group (RF), Superconducting RF section (SRF).

You will join:

.The Beams Department (BE), which hosts the Groups responsible for beam generation, acceleration, diagnostics, controls and performance optimisation.

.The Radiofrequency group, responsible for the RF Acceleration and Transverse Damping Systems for CERN accelerators. Our team operates the RF systems of existing accelerators and participates in the design of future accelerators and upgrades of existing machines.

.The Superconducting RF (BE-RF-SRF) section, responsible for the construction and testing of Superconducting RF components and related infrastructure.

Functions

As a Mechanical Technician in the Superconducting RF Section, you will be part of a small team working on superconducting RF with the aim of assembling, maintaining and testing high-performance superconducting radio-frequency components and infrastructure for CERN's present accelerators and present plus future projects.

You will:

.Assist in the exploitation of the facilities for fabrication, testing and assembly of complex SRF systems and related equipment.

.Implement these systems and equipment in test facilities as well as contribute to operating them in existing accelerators.

.Be responsible for maintenance and keeping the facilities in good working order.

.Assemble RF components such as complete cavities and cryomodules in a clean room.

.Take RF measurements of components.

.Verify connection and check of cryo-instrumentation.

.Take responsibility for quality control procedures and documenting results.

.Join in the conceptual design of specific assemblies in clean-room environment.

.Participate in the chemical treatment and cleaning of parts.

Qualification required

Technical certificate in the field of mechanics or electromechanics, or equivalent*.

*Please note that preference will be given to candidates with the above-mentioned qualifications: In principle consideration will not be given to applications from people with higher qualifications.

Experience and competencies

The experience required for this post is:

.A first relevant experience in the fields of precision mechanical assembly work.

.Experience of working in a clean-room environment including maintenance of clean room equipment and working with the relevant quality control standards and procedures would be considered an asset.

The technical competencies required for this post are:

.Precision assembly and construction.

.Assembly in clean rooms.

.Use of assembly and mounting techniques.

.Quality management.

.Maintenance & operation of cryostats.

.Installation & dismantling of mechanical equipment & systems.
